Results are In!

Last Tuesday I went in for my regular obgyn appointment and they scheduled me for my ultra sound for the next day at 3:15. We got some friends from the ward to watch the girls and we headed over to Inland Imaging. I quizzed my doctor as what to expect and she said that pretty much the tech might talk and tell me what body parts they were looking at or just not say anything. She said that if they know of an abnormality they can't tell, but they would be able to tell us the sex of the baby. She said a radiologist would go over the ultra sound than call her with the results and she would let me know of any problems...
So we went prepared and after an hour we saw, two arms, two legs, a heart with 4 chambers, part of a spine, a face that was cute of what we saw of it, it was covered by the arms most of the time, and low and behold a little penis... I know I know the word but I guess i better get used to it... lets see if I can think of a better word; his member, his pee pee, his manhood... I don't know moms what do you refer to it in your household... with the girls we call it there 'area' but with boys well it's gonna be different. He wasn't shy about hiding that at all, he at one time shook it all around... Here we go!
We were super busy with so much other stuff that today I finally got to go and look in a store, not just on line at baby stuff to get some ideas etc of what I want to do. I have his bed room all planned out come on now... that big reveal will happen when we move in March and he gets a bedroom. So we hit up Wal-Mart today to grocery shop and I looked at a ton of baby clothes, little shoes, socks, onesies, I have two showers coming up and so I didn't want to buy much besides he will be coming at the end of May so I don't want to invest in long sleeved shirts. So I found this cute little onesie. Dave liked it. Dave is completely 100 % thrilled. Yes of course we would have been fine having a girl, we have two we know how that all goes, but Dave feels less out numbered now and is excited to have a son, that is a bond that can never be replaced.
So since I can't decorate a nursery yet I made a scrapbook. I had the scrapbook and the paper so basically it was just gluing it down, and his name is on the front page. Ezra, man it took us a long time to come up with a name that felt right. It is a great name. His great grandfather is Ezra Taft Benson. My dad's mom is Flora Benson Ransom, her grandfather is Ezra Taft Benson, and her cousin is Ezra Taft Benson the prophet... so there ya go. Jeffrey well Dave's middle name is Jeffrey and so is his dads. It is a great middle name. If we have another boy down the road his middle name will be George. It's just how it is gonna be.
Tuesday I pulled my ultra sound pictures out of my purse and decided to add them to the scrapbook. I showed them to Sami and told her all about the baby. Dave thinks these pictures are creepy and so he said I was going to freak her out, but she sure was interested in them. I showed her the picture (bottom one located here) that points to the gender, and I said it's a boy, and that is his pee pee... I said girls have a vagina boys have a penis... I know way over her head at this point but she is gonna wonder when I start changing diapers...
Right after this chat Dave had to go to school and we said our before anyone leaves the house morning prayers and she said the first prayer and blessed baby Ezra... it was so cute... she was unbelieving that he was a boy and she called him baby girl Emma even after we told her he was a boy, but now she prays about him all the time. Today in our lunch prayer I rushed through and she caught me and said that I didn't bless baby Ezra... I love her sweet little testimony and disposition. She really gets on my nerves but she is so smart and has such a great memory it is wonderful, it is sad that she is growing up and will be in kindergarten this fall.. I will cry for many days... I just know it.
The doctor's nurse call me yesterday on our way home from Portland, (see next post) and they didn't get many pictures of the spine and kidney's and they want to get a better look so I go in again on the 25th, wish me luck... and pray for me that they don't find anything... I have been really stressed, and overly emotional this week and so today was nice to just relax and feel Ezra move around and kick me... it's amazing how much more stressful it is when you have 2 other kids. If this ends up being a high risk pregnancy I think we may be done... I don't want to have another one that is high risk, it's not worth it, too much heart ache and stress.
Well we are very excited for our little Super Hero!

We are SUPER excited that you are having a baby (and that's he's a boy!) Try not to worry too much about the extra ultrasound. Sometimes they just don't take the right screenshots and have to do it again. Bonus face time for Ezra. Cute scrapbook pages and prayer stories.
(FYI-we just call them "parts", although we also use "weener". It's still strange to me and he's almost four!)

So sweet, and so excited for you! We call it a penis - no sense in give parts a nickname that will only confuse them later. We just have always made sure that we talk about special body parts with reverence and respect and it's never been an issue (I have friends, though, whose kids throw out names like "penis head" and such all the time because their parents do NOT teach them about reverence and respect).

Just a tip: my ultrasound pics from Caleb (so, 8 years ago) that I put in his scrapbook have faded so much that you really can't see anything. That's the nature of heat tape, I guess. So now I always scan them on my computer, resize them and send them to Walmart/Costco as 4x6 prints so they will last a long time. :)
